Abstract
In the original language
Research background: The expansion of global hotel chains in Central Europe reflects trends in international hospitality, urban development, and tourism demand. Analyzing their market footprint provides insights into management decisions, competitive strategies, and regional dynamics. Purpose of the article: This study compares the presence and positioning of global hotel chains in the Czechia and Poland. Objectives include: (1) identifying operating groups and their brand mix by segment; (2) assessing geographic distribution across capitals and secondary cities; and (3) evaluating the role of loyalty programs in cross-border demand capture. Methods: Publicly available statistical and company data were used to identify hotels from major chains, including Accor, Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Hyatt, Wyndham, Radisson, Choice, BWH, Meliá, NH, Four Seasons, etc. Hotels were classified into five segments, from luxury to economy, and their distribution across selected regions in the Czechia and Poland was systematically analyzed. Findings & Value added: European hotel chains, particularly French and American ones, dominate both markets, but with different brands. In the Czech Republic, capacity is concentrated in Prague, mainly in luxury and exclusive hotels. In Poland, chains are expanding into regional cities, with an emphasis on the mid-range and economy segments to reflect a stronger domestic customer base. Loyalty programs (e.g., ALL, Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, etc.) play a key role in cross-border demand. Based on two destinations, this study outlines the Central European context and suggests directions for future research applicable across the region.
