Course objectives
The course is devoted to the basics of relational databases and nonprocedural a standardized language SQL. The students are acquainted with the administration of SQL Server, creating a relational database as the basis of the information system.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - describe database models especially the concept of relational database - orient and work with the language SQL - design and build a relational database
Syllabus
  • Database Systems:
    - Description of the systems, features, object-oriented database model.
    - Relational database.
    - Description, basic concepts, the mathematical apparatus, search engine algorithms.
    Database design:
    - The procedures for creating relational database, conceptual schema ER-diagrams, types of attributes, relational connection, database normalization.
    SQL syntax:
    - Predicates, logical connectives, handling DB, sessions, entities, projection, selection, data aggregation, transaction management, access rights management.
    Use SQL in othres programming languages: PERL, PHP.

Teacher's information
To obtain the credit, students must hand in a semester project. The semester project will consist of a database created by students on a topic obtained after a consultation with the lecturer, by the midway through the teaching period. The database must be a functional unit that is error free and that will store data on the given topic.
The exam consists of a consultation about the semester project. The evaluation of the project will focus on its overall completion, namely: the reliability of the development of the database, student's personal contribution to the work on the theme, possibilities of further development of the database and also students' understanding of the issues and the acquired knowledge during the course.
