Předmět si klade za cíl seznámit se základy algebry, diferenciálních rovnic a analytickou geometrií, bez kterých se při dalším studiu nelze obejít. Důraz je kladen na praktické zvládnutí těchto metod a jejich použití k řešení konkrétních úloh.
