- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The lecture introduces in the German literature of the second half of the 20th century. The focus lies both on the Federal Republic of Germany and German Democratic Republic literature after they year 1945, trying to follow the literary development up to today in certain episodes and reviewing important writers and their works in the given social and political context. The seminar tries to deepen the basics of the lecture and to introduce in further important writers and their works, which the students have to read and to prepare at home to discuss in the seminars. Lectures and seminars: 1. Literature in the Federal Republic of Germany from Kahlschlag to Tendenzwende. 2. Literature in the Federal Republic of Germany from Tendenzwende to the end of 20th century. 3. Literature in the German Democratic Republic in the era Ulbricht. 4. Literature in the German Democratic Republic in the era Honecker. 5. Writers: Heinrich Böll and Wolfgang Koeppen. 6. Writers: Günter Grass and Uwe Johnson. 7. Writers: Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt. 8. Heinrich Böll: Wanderer, kommst du nach Spa? / Wolfgang Borchert: Draußen vor der Tür. 9. Wolfgang Koeppen: Das Treibhaus / Hans Erich Nossack: Spätestens im November. 10. Heinrich Böll: Billard um halbzehn / Günter Grass: Katz und Maus. 11. Friedrich Dürrenmatt: Der Besuch der alten Dame / Max Frisch: Homo faber. 12. Bruno Apitz: Nackt unter Wölfen / Christoph Hein: Horns Ende.
