Course objectives
The course presents guiding as a specific part of client services in two segments:
1. Tour guiding in cultural and historical facilities and installed objects. The professional readiness of a tour guide, the ability to prepare/present a coherent structured text and to respond to suggestions, questions, as well as rhetorical and communication skills are emphasized.
2. Tour guiding in organized tourism with emphasis on cultural heritage/monuments. Tour guiding and conditions for their operation, and professional associations are defined in the course. Attention is paid to the duties and activities of the tour guide, his/her personality, principles of behaviour and style of work. Tour guide services specify relation to the types of leisure product, organisation and preparation of product, the role of the tour guide, and the demands on his/her professional, linguistic and organisational competences.
For both segments, the need for an individual approach to clients, adaptability when working with specific groups, and the ability to apply knowledge from psychology are highlighted.
