- Course objectives
- The course provides an overview of streams and movements of British literature from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present era. It stresses the generic and thematic wealth of British literature throughout the ages. The course follows up on Introduction to Literature and seeks to apply the knowledge thereby acquired in practice.
- Learning outcomes
- Orientation in the chronology of English literature. Familiarity with the main currents and authors of the English literary canon. Ability to critically interpret literary texts.

- 1. Introduction to English literature. 2. Anglo-Saxon literature. 3. English Medieval literature. 4. Literature of English Renaissance (poetry). 5. Literature of English Renaissance (drama). 6. William Shakespeare 7. Metaphysical poets. 8. Restoration period. 9. Enlightenment. 10. Poetry of the 18th century. 11. Early novels, satire. 12. Pre-Romanticism and Romanticism. 13. Final summary and credit test
