Prerequisites
The course deepens and expands knowledge of cultural, political, economic and social aspects of historical development in selected segments of cultural and social development, that are described in the context of lifestyle intellectual and religious aspects, customs and mentalities, culture and art. It provides a basic overview of the topic on the background of general tendencies and major events in the history of the Czech and European countries from the end of the 18th century to 1992 with an emphasis on the cultural aspects of social everyday life. The course is organized chronologically and thematically, the aim is to lead students to the perception of contexts, to the ability to understand the basic developmental tendencies and parallels, to orient themselves in the basic concepts of Czech and European history. Within the seminar, attention is paid to selected problem areas of Czech and European cultural history. The student deepens the ability to work with literature and selected sources, and her/his skills in the application of methods of historical work.

Birth of a citizen: transformation of the state and society in the Czech lands and Europe (ca. 1780-1918) 3. Old and modern: Historization of consciousness in Europe from the second half of the 18th century 4. Secularization and Disenchantment of the World: Changes in Religions and Churches in the Czech Lands and Europe (ca. 1780-1918) 5. Knowledge, education and training in the Czech lands and Europe (ca. 1780-1918) 6. From historicism to modernism: Transformations of art in the "long" 19th century 7. The phenomenon of leisure time in modern times (approx. 1780-1918) 8. Czechoslovakia and Europe 1918–1945 in political, economic and social perspective 9. Czechoslovakia and Europe 1945–1990 in a political, economic and social perspective 10. Czech and European thought of the 20th century (philosophy, political theory, science, religion) 11. Czech and European culture of the 20th century (modern art, culture between democracy and totalitarianism) 12.
