- Course objectives
- The course is focused on the systematic development of skills in writing various departments in English, such as essays, literary essays, final theses, etc. It discusses the basic skills associated with written expression, as well as the specifics of English written academic texts. The aim is, among other things, to teach students how to work with larger sets of information and in a creative and correct way to process them in writing. Attention is also paid to the revision of the text and the oral presentation of research results.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to write an academic essay and master other academic written forms in English
- Syllabus
- 1. Authorship and plagiarism, how to avoid plagiarism.
- 2. Sources of information and work with them (various sources of information, their reliability, data collection and commentary).
- 3. Critical thinking, reading and writing. How to avoid common mistakes when writing.
- 4. Types of texts (essay, argumentative essay, literary essay, presentation).
- 5. Social factors in writing (target group, the question of text formality, spoken and written text).
- 6. We start writing: how to choose a topic.
- 7. Writing and rewriting, how to present ideas (writing as a process, writing the first version and other versions).
- 8. Structure of the essay (general advice; introduction, article and conclusion).
- 9. How to logically build and organize a text well.
- 10. Consistent approach to the text, what else to pay attention to when writing).
- 11. Revision of the text, proofreading and final adjustments.
- 12. Presentation of research results, defense of the final thesis.
- 13. Joint evaluation of assigned tasks.
