Předmět poskytuje základy databázové technologie zpracování dat. Věnuje se vlastnostem této technologie, jejich komponentům, architektuře, způsobům fyzické organizace dat, datovým nodelům, podrobněji se soutřeďuje na relační datový model, včetmě návrhů relačních schémat databáze a na relační jazyky pro manipulaci s daty.
