Course objectives
1. Introduction to the topic, history of CS 2. Cognition from the point of view of psychology, linguistics, pedagogy, and artificial intelligence. 3. Newell's and Simon's physical symbol system as the necessary and sufficient condition for cognition. 4. Knowledge representation schemes from the point of view of CS, the symbol representation scheme. 5. Knowledge representation from the standpoint of CS - other possibilities. 6. Knowledge and knowledge-based systems from the positions of CS. 7. Robotics from the position of CS. The mind/body problem. 8. The consciousness problem - Searle's Chinese room paradox. 9. The consciousness problem - Dennett's concept of the consciousness. 10. Minsky's society theory of mind. Chalmers' dualism, Emergence of the consciousness. 11. Decentralisation, connectionism, and (artificial) neural networks. 12. Recapitulation.
