- Course objectives
- Introduction and the history of cognitive science. Thinking from the perspective of logics, psychology, linguistics, pedagogics, and artificial intelligence. Newell's and Simon's hypothesis of the symbol systems as a necessary and sufficient condition of the intelligence. Knowledge representation from the perspective of cognitive science, the representation schemata. Other approaches. Knowledge based and expert systems from the perspective of cognitive science. Robotics from the same perspective. The mind/body problem. The problem of consciousness - Searle's paradox of the Chinese room. The problem of consciousness - the Dennett's view. Minsky's society theory of the mind. Chalmer's dualism. The emergence of the mind. Decentralization and connectionism, and the (artificial) neural nets from the perspective of cognitive science. Resume.
