Course objectives
The goal of the course is to acquaint students with the functions of the components in personal computers. The lectures are focused on the solutions common in the practice.
Syllabus
  • History of computer technology.
    Structure of a computer, BIOS, EFI BIOS.
    Connectors and interfaces.
    Communication of devices (IRQ, DMA, I/O, memory adresses).
    External memory media. RAID.
    Motherboards.
    Processors.
    Internal memory.
    I/O devices.
    Expansion cards - graphics, sound, network cards.
    Power supplies and cooling.
