Course objectives

A series of lectures will attempt to give insight into the development of castles, palaces, fortresses and residential estates in Central Europe from a variety of functional, formal, social and urban aspects in chronological order from the early Middle Ages to the 19th century, sporadically after 1 half of the 20th age. The topic will be considered both in terms of theory, with a particular focus on the definition and characteristics of different types of functional and architectural transformations in historical and stylistic periods , and interspersed closer look at the selected objects, allowing illustrative presentation of selected problem areas . They analysed the strategic, fortified and administrative concepts in their historical variability, discussed trends as offers basic technical literature, covered by the settlement, representative of economic functions, etc. In selected cases will be teaching in the classroom replaced excursions to selected objects so that the acquisitions of theoretical knowledge were confronted with real situations. Interested parties should obtain generally likes supported the idea of basic types, trends and real objects, this is necessary to achieve the desired erudition historians, conservationists and cultural workers in general.
