Course objectives
The cycle of lectures and seminars is dedicated to an overview of Italian literature from the 13th to the 15th century. The lectures aim to characterize a period from a literary, historical and social point of view and to present the main authors of the period. The seminars focus on an analysis of a series of texts. The course programme is freely completed by the course of Italian literature in film 1.

  • 1. Introduzione sulle origini. Il `200: la letteratura religiosa, didattica e quella profana.
    Analisi: Francesco d`Assisi Cantico delle creature
    2. Le origini della poesia d`arte, dalla lirica provenzale alla poesia in Sicilia ed in Toscana
    Analisi: Giacomo da Lentini: Io m`aggio posto in cuore
    3. Il Dolce stil novo
    Analisi: Guido Guinizzelli: Al cor gentil rempaira sempre amore
    4.- 5. Dante Alighieri: la trattatistica, la lirica e la Divina commedia
    Analisi: Dante Alighieri: estratto da La Divina commedia
    6. L`antitesi della lirica illustre. Il realismo, la giocosit? e la letteratura di viaggio
    Analisi: Rustichello da Pisa e Marco Polo: Milione
    7.-8. I classici del `300, Petrarca
    Analisi: Petrarca: Di pensier in pensier, di monte in monte
    9.-10. I classici del `300. Boccaccio. Il passaggio dall`exemplum alla novella.
    Analisi: Boccaccio: estratto da Il Decameron
    11.-12. L`umanesimo. La nascita delle Accademie, la comunione della tradizione filosofica con la tradizione cristiana. La corte di Lorenzo de` Medici.
    Analisi: Poliziano: I`mi trovai, fanciulle, un bel mattino
