Course objectives
The main aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the history and present state of the Austrian culture. An overview of the main historical eras with a focus on recent history will be given as well as details about developments in Austria nowadays. Students will gain insights into the cultural and social environment of Austria by getting knowledge about the country's media landscape, language variety, customs, traditions education and more.

    3. Famous reformers - Maria Theresia and Josef 2
    4. Downfall of the monarchy - First Republic and Austrian fascism
    5. Second Republic - Waldheim, Vranitzky and the handling oft the past
    6. Political system - federalism, social partnership, big coalition
    7. Media in Austria
    8. German as a pluricentric language and the Austrian variety of German
    9. Religion and customs
    10. Education system - elementary school, cooperative middle school, university and Pisa
    11. 9 x Austria - the federal states
    12. Music country Austria - Mozart, Austropop and new folk music
