Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic concepts of theatrology and provides a basic insight into the problems of theatre.
Syllabus
  • 1. What is theatre? Origin and basis of theatre. Performativity in theatre. The relationship between theatre and other art forms
    2. Artefakt of theatre. Staging a theatre production.
    3. Hierarchy of elements in theatre artefacts, constructing a theatre production. Text, dramaturgy, directing, acting, scenography, choreography, stage music.
    4. Drama and theatre. Constructing a drama. Drama and its genres.
    5. Time and space in drama and in theatre production.
    6. Typology of theatre. Theatre types and genres.
    7. Theatre studies as a science. Classification of theatrological fields.

Teacher's information
1. Active participation in the lectures and seminars (two absences are permitted), completion of assignments on time are required.
2. Independent creation of the course paper and its presentation (approx. 5 standard pages of text). Final version of the course paper must be delivered 3 days before term of assessment. Unsatisfactory papers will be returned for revision.
3. Completion of the final oral or written exam.
