Course objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce the concept of localization and its relationship to translation. As localization involves more processes than translation, first chapters are devoted to defining the key terms of localization, globalization and internationalization. Significant emphasis is placed on the linguistic and cultural differences that play a major role in text adaptations for various locations, which includes adapting content to the local conventions for such features as date and time formats, currencies, numbers, language, colour coding, cultural choices, writing systems.
