Course objectives
The course is focused on the systematic and comprehensive development of language competence and on the practical application of communicative skills for intermediate speakers of English (level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference). Students will consolidate and deepen their knowledge of English grammar, expand their vocabulary and practice pronunciation. Emphasis will be placed on listening and speaking.
Learning outcomes
The students will learn to deal with difficult situations where problems need to be solved, to argue and ask other students specific questions. will enlarge their vocabulary and grammar skills
Syllabus
  • 1. Pronouns, substitution and leaving out words 1; Vocabulary study: abbreviations and acronyms
  • 2. Pronouns, substitution and leaving out words 2; Vocabulary study: word-building and word-blending
  • 3. Adjectives and adverbs: Gradable and non-gradable adjectives; Vocabulary study: easily confused words
  • 4. Adjectives and adverbs: comparative and superlative forms, comparative clauses and clauses
  • 5. Adjectives and adverbs: degree adverbs and focus adverbs; Vocabulary study: collocations
  • 6. Adverbial clauses and conjunctions: adverbial clauses of time; purposes and results; contrasts
  • 7. Adverbial clauses and conjunctions: If, if---not; unless, if and whether; Vocabulary study: language and gender
  • 8. Prepositions of position and movement; Vocabulary study: idioms (advising and warning) 9. Prepositions of time; Vocabulary study: emphasizing
  • 10. Prepositions after verbs and nouns; Pronunciation study: Features of fluent speech
  • 11. Organizing information 1 (there is, there was…); Pronunciation study: Intonation in telling, asking and answering
