- Course objectives
- The course provides basic knowledge about cultural tourism as a modern form of leisure and educational activities, focusing on cultural traditions and their role in the present. It emphasizes those cultural tourism trends that focus on the exploring cultural history, monuments and artefacts (ecclesiastical/religious, castellological, urban, rural, industrial, mining, etc.). Attention is paid to the potential of culture, cultural history/heritage and the limits of their use in the context of their protection against devastation, and conversely to the contribution of tourism and leisure activities to the preservation, reconstruction and development of tangible/architectural and intangible historical monuments. It outlines possibilities for effective use of cultural heritage in the field of specific forms of tourism (so-called accessible tourism for people with specific needs and requirements, event and congress tourism). It focuses on international cooperation and institutional partnership in the creation of cultural tourism products. It takes into account specifics of cultural tourism in cross-border regions and illustrates examples of good practice (tourist trails, travel agency products, information centres, etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- The student will acquire basic theoretical knowledge in the field of cultural tourism as a modern form of leisure and sightseeing activities. He/she can name the segments of cultural tourism focused on learning about history, monuments, cultural heritage and individual segments of culture. He/she is able to characterize and explain their nature and determine the motives of their participants. He/she can identify the potential and limits of the involvement of cultural heritage in tourism, as well as the contribution of cultural tourism to the preservation of monuments. He/she is able to explain the market rules and factors affecting tourism, he/she has the knowledge of human resources in cultural tourism. He/she is oriented in the field of international and cross-border cooperation. He/she can apply the acquired knowledge and skills to a reasonable extent in case studies.

- 1. Introduction to the course, sources, information sources.
- 2.-3. Segments of cultural tourism with emphasis on history, monuments and cultural heritage.
- 4. Segments of cultural tourism with an emphasis on cultural knowledge (music and literature, film tourism, etc.).
- 5. Cultural tourism in the tourism system at home and abroad.
- 6. Market principles and factors operating in tourism, conditions of its development.
- 7. Human sources in the field of work with clients in cultural tourism.
- 8. Potential of cultural tourism in the field of protection, restoration and development of monuments and cultural heritage.
- 9. Cultural tourism in the system of specific forms of tourism.
- 10. Regional specifics, centre - periphery in cultural tourism.
- 11. International and cross-border cooperation in the field of cultural heritage (the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries).
