Course objectives
The subject English 3 follows on from the subject English 2 and its aim is to continue to develop the students' already acquired knowledge. Emphasis is placed on the grammatical-lexical side of the language and the harmonious development of all four language skills (listening, reading, writing, speaking) so that students communicate intelligibly and grammatically correctly in common situations, both orally and in writing, at the given language level. The topics discussed reflect areas five and six of the recommended literature. These topics will be expanded with other additional materials reflecting the specific needs of students so that they deepen their knowledge of the studied field, but also their knowledge of English-speaking countries in Europe and the world, and strengthen their awareness of the existence of different cultures and societies in the contemporary multicultural world. The subject ends with a credit test. The exit level of the subject corresponds to level B1+, and the aim of the whole series of English I-V subjects is for students to reach language level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student demonstrates: - the achievement of language level B 1.2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference, - the ability to communicate in English at level B2.1 about topics and activities not only from everyday life, but also in situations of a higher social nature, e.g. study, travel, etc. - the ability to argue in informal and formal discourse on well-known and less well-known topics using appropriate vocabulary, - the ability to recognize and use different types of especially informal functional styles, - the ability to communicate in writing, informal correspondence on a number of types of personal letters or electronic messages, but also in formal written communication when writing a CV, invitation or reservation, - the ability to use grammatical phenomena at the given level, - the ability to follow a presentation on various topics, participate in a discussion, give a presentation on a well-known topic from the field.
