Course objectives

The lecture series is designed to acquaint students with the chief processes which shaped early modern Europe and in many ways influence the western civilization up to now (printing as means of communication, post system as a model of communication network, differentiation of western Christendom, expansion of nation states, conflicting coexistence with the overseas and with the Ottoman empire, enlightenment). The students' understanding of these processes is crucial for their ability to analyze and contextualize the small early modern events.

Learning outcomes

By graduating, the student will gain an overview of the history of the early modern period, in the context of European and world history. It focuses on the complex history of the 16th - 18th centuries, which includes changes in philosophy, religion and mentality, discovery paths and their consequences, the development of science, technology, culture, the processes of acculturation and cultural change.

Teaching methods

The course will consist of lectures and seminars - students are expected to actively participate in all forms of teaching, as well as independent study of compulsory and recommended literature. is active participation in the course, processing and presentation of the selected topic at the seminar and passing the knowledge test.

Assessment methods

Graduates will be evaluated according to the submitted semester work (range approx. 7-9 standard pages), its presentation and according to the activities at the seminar for a total of 40 points and a final knowledge test for 60 points. , rating B is 92-83 points, rating C is 82-75 points, rating D is 74-67 points, rating E is 66-60 points.
