Basic knowledge of optics at the high school level. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Astrophysics (programme FU, FYZB)
- Astronomy and popularization (programme FU, FYZB)
- Course objectives
- The objective of this laboratory exercise is to introduce fundamental principles of geometrical, wave, fiber and laser optics. Theoretical discussion is illustrated with a practical examples of measurements made by students.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to explain the nature of the investigated physical phenomenon, perform an experiment with available laboratory aids, evaluate the measurement results and determine the measurement error.
- Syllabus
- Measuring and processing protocols of these practical laboratory tasks:
First Measurements of radiation characteristics of LED and radiation characteristics of optical fibers.
Second Power measurements on optical path (measurement of optical path attenuation, attenuation fiber-fiber links and optical attenuator).
3rd Determination of coherence length He-Ne laser.
4th Energy ratios reflection of optical radiation on dielectric (verification of Fresnel formulas for reflection).
5th Photometric measurements.
6th Study aberrations of optical systems and their correction.
7th Visual optical system (magnifying glass, microscope).
8th Measurement of certain parameters of lenses, mirrors and optical systems.
9th Design of optical systems on a PC.
10th Study of the light diffraction.
11th Study of optical activity of substances.
