Course objectives
The subject acquaints students with plasma physics fundamentals including basic applications to astrophysical plasma.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- formulaze and solve physical problems associated with plasma,
- decide when it is appropriate to describe plasma using hydrodynamcs, resp. using kinetic theory,
- apply plasma physics knowledge to astrophysical systems

  • Main topics of the subject:
    • Basic plasma properties and parameters,
    • Motion of charged particles in the electromagnetic field,
    • Coulomb collisions, relaxation phenomena,
    • Microscopic statistical description of plasma,
    • Kinetic theory of plasma,
    • Fluid theory of plasma, magnetohydrodynamics,
    • Equilibrium configurationsin magnetohydrodynamics,
    • Waves in plasma,
    • Instability in plasma,
    • Astrophysicál plasma,
    • Relativistic kinetic theory and general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics,
    • Plasma and elektromagnetic radiation,
    • Numerical simulations of plasma.
