Course objectives

The objective of the course "English for Social Pathology and Prevention" is to develop students' professional language competence in English, focusing on key terms and topics in the field of social pathology and prevention. The course aims to expand students' vocabulary, improve their ability to comprehend specialized texts, and enhance communication skills in English within a professional context. Students will acquire the skills needed for effectively searching for and utilizing English-language scholarly resources, supporting their preparation for writing theses and their future professional practice. The course is designed to complement other courses focused on social work and prevention and to strengthen an interdisciplinary approach to addressing issues related to social pathology. Additionally, it prepares students to utilize modern tools, including artificial intelligence, for working with foreign-language texts.

Learning outcomes

Enhanced Vocabulary: Students will expand their vocabulary with specialized terms and concepts related to the field of "Social Pathology and Prevention."
Improved Research Skills: Students will develop the ability to effectively search for and utilize English-language academic articles and research papers. They will learn to critically evaluate sources and integrate findings into their own work.
Proficiency in AI Tools: Students will gain practical skills in using modern AI tools for searching, analyzing, and working with English-language texts. This includes the ability to leverage AI technologies to enhance their research and professional practice.
Application of English-Language Resources: Students will strengthen their ability to use English-language sources when writing their final theses and in their professional careers. They will learn to effectively incorporate these resources into their academic and professional work.
Communication Skills: Through discussions, presentations, and written assignments, students will improve their ability to communicate effectively in English, both in academic and professional contexts.

Group Activities: Collaborative group work focused on practical application of learned concepts, problem-solving, and enhancing communication skills in English.
Homework Assignments: Assignments designed to reinforce vocabulary acquisition, comprehension of academic texts, and application of theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Assessment methods

Continuous Attendance: Regular attendance at seminars is mandatory and will be monitored as part of the assessment. Ongoing Completion of Assigned Tasks: Students will be evaluated based on their timely and quality completion of homework and other assigned activities throughout the semester. Presentation: Assessment based on the preparation and delivery of a presentation on a given topic, including the ability to use specialized vocabulary and critically analyze the issue. Written Test: If ongoing activities are not at a satisfactory level, students will be required to take a written test to assess their understanding of the material and their ability to apply the acquired knowledge. *Specification of the conditions for completion of the course will always be placed in the information system before the start of the course in the semester.
