Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to introduce issue of work in multicultural environment and international organizations and with processes used in the field of intercultural management. The subject should prepare the students for working effectively in multicultural environment and for effective coping with mental stress caused by social interactions with different national culture. The concept of processes of globalisation and internationalization is way-out. The multicultural involvement and perspective of management are stressed and concept of multicultural management, factors and segments o global environment, concept of national identity and mentality are presented. The elements of national culture and national cultural difference, cultural dimension and attitude, Hofstede´s model of national culture follow. The attention is also paid to importance of differences between national cultures for managers and specialists working in international and multicultural environment, introduction of cultural diversity, cognition and respecting of other national cultures, confrontations with foreign culture. The effective strategy of coping with mental stress when working abroad and in multicultural environment, intercultural communication, its effectiveness and barriers are presented. The course includes also ethics and etiquette in intercultural management, management of international operations and operational management in multicultural environment. The characteristics of selected national cultures are also presented.
