Course objectives
LECTURE The goal is to provide basic information about the field, especially in the context of the current state of the Czech prison system and its incorporation into the European context. Students will become familiar with relevant legal arrangements (including related Probation and Mediation Service), the organizational structure of the Prison Service, prison staff, current issues and other issues of penal theory and practice. Classes will be enlivened by expert commentary on the premise of the prison facility
Syllabus
  • 1st Concept, subject and importance of penology.
    2nd Philosophy and objectives of imprisonment, efficiency and effectiveness of prison.
    3rd Development of imprisonment, prison history.
    4th European prison rules and concept development of the prison system in the CzechRepublic.
    5th Alternatives for unconditional sentencing.
    6th The mission and organizational structure of the Probation and Mediation Service.
    7th Rehabilitation, re-education, rehabilitation of prisoners' reintegration.
    8th Post Penitentiary social work. .
    9th Accompanying negative effects of imprisonment - prisonisation, aggression, violence.
    10th Legislation regarding imprisonment.
    11th Legal custody arrangements.
    12th Preventive detention and imprisonment of specific groups of prisoners (women,psychopaths, prisoners with addictions, adolescents, etc.).
    13th Organizational Structure of the Prison. Prison staff.

Teacher's information
The test - preparation of lectures and required reading
Students prepare to become within minutes. 5 pages. Choosing the topic is definedwithin the specified learning areas. Each student selects one topic and the wordingshall notify the teacher within 14 days of e-mail. Literature, from which the student will receive a minimum range of 3 degrees from the circle of literature and a basic degreein literature, the recommended range. The basic criterion for assessing the quality of articles will demonstrate the ability to work with specialized texts, with appropriate emphasis on linking individua authors thesis into a coherent logica framework. The term is always sending the tasks set at the start of the semester and is mandatory. Evaluation and feedback will provide the teacher e-mail at specified times.
