Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide student with information on basic procedures of communication with disabled, socially disadvantaged and handicapped human beings and to provide knowledge of priorities in communication properly led by health-service specialists. In addition to communication with individuals, the course also describes the importance of empathy in communication and the importance of mirroring in communication. The highest attention is paid to practising of communication with human beings suffering from various handicaps. Having finished the course, the students are able to orient themselves in the issues of communication with human beings suffering from various handicaps, properly led communication with elderly people, children and people suffering from pain.
Syllabus
  • 1. Communication and forming of healthy relationships; communication of cordiality, respect and sincerity.
    2. Mirroring in communication, mirroring techniques. Feedback providing in communication, positive feedback, negative feedback.
    3. Empathy in medical communication. Empathetic behaviour.
    4. Communication with elderly people. Effects of limited sensory perception on communication at old age.
    5. Communication with children. Specifics of communication depending on the age of children. Communication with an adolescent.
    6. Communication with adults, communication during education of an adult client. Differences in communication with men and women.
