- Course objectives
- Within the course, the students will be introduced the principal concepts of the theory and practice of diplomacy, history of development of diplomatic relations, main functions and structure of diplomatic representation, forms and rules of diplomatic correspondence and diplomatic procedure and political, commercial and social meetings, and also selected questions from societal procedure and societal contact, all with respect to possible usage of gained knowledge in practice - in international and regional level in both official and private sphere. The students will acquire also links to information resources in this field including information about possibilities of diplomatic and foreign service in Czech and European political and commercial structures.
- Syllabus
- 1. Diplomacy and its importance. History of development of diplomatic contacts and principal data from history of world and Czech (Czechoslovak) diplomacy. Diplomatic and other missions
2. Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech republic and system of Czech diplomatic missions and representation in the world
3. Diplomatic procedure - concepts, history of procedure, diplomatic contacts. Diplomatic board - rank, accreditation, privileges and immunities
4. Diplomatic mail, correspondence, writings. Diplomatic notes
5. Consular contacts and authorities. Consular privileges and immunities
6. Commercial and cultural diplomacy. Conference diplomacy and practice. Receiving foreign diplomats and foreign visits
7. International agreements, pacts and organizations, basic principles of international law. The Czech republic in the frame of international communities (EU, NATO, UN)
8. Sources of information about Czech foreign policy and diplomatic service
9. Societal procedure - development of rules of societal behaviour. Societal procedure in oral and written performance. Usage of business cards, invitations and writings in diplomatic and societal contact
10. Societal procedure in dressing. Rules of dressing in diplomatic and social practice. Procedure in mess. Primary societal and diplomatic enterprises and opportunities. Some diversities in societal procedure and habits especially in central Europe
11. State symbols of the Czech republic. Rules of usage
12. Rules of usage of flags, symbols in international events and in diplomatic practice. National symbols - usage in the EU countries.
