Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge and skills in the field of process of implementation of information systems in health care. The subject provides information about issues of computer support in health care, focuses on standardization and normalization of data, on legal regulations, on description of communication interface, safety and protection of data and interoperability of information systems in health care. During the course the student acquires knowledge of development, implementation and support of extensive information systems in health care. The students will be able to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to analyse issues of computerization of health care in conformity with legal regulations. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to describe legal conditions of implementing information systems in health care, is well informed about current trends of ICT and is able to professionally process data published in national health care registers. Professional skills: The student is able, by using expert knowledge in ICT, to use technology in health care for administration of electronic documents correctly. General ability: Student is able to make independent decisions as to which ICT to use in practice. Competence: The student effectively uses information systems in health care in the field of registers, documentation and new technologies in respect to protection of personal data and veracity of data.

  • 1. Introduction to subject: defining goals and contents of subject, introduction to reading and sources, defining some terms and relations.
    2. Data, information, legal code and norms in implementing IS.
    3. Information and communication technology in health care system.
    4. Comparison of implementation of eHealth system in the Czech Republic and the EU.
    5. National registers and information systems in health care.
    6. Administration of documents in health care.
    7. Examples of good practical use.

Attendance in a minimum of 80 per cent of lessons. Preparing a paper on a selected topic (5-7 pages) and defending it. Demonstration of knowledge in exercises.
