Prerequisites
Expert Knowledge:
Students demonstrate grammar, lexical and translation skills to such an extent that they are able to process unknown Polish text and to build up their specialized vocabulary with the assistance of dictionaries.
Expert Skills:
Students are able to use relevant Polish vocabulary on and adequate ( depending on the starting student´s level) receptive (reading, listening) and productive (writing, speaking) level. They are able to work with expert literature of their field and translate specialized texts on an intermediate level.
General Competency:
Students are able to analyze a specialized Polish text effectively and to chose appropriate means to achieve understanding and translation. On the basis of this skill, they will be able to build up a specialized vocabulary as a foundation for further communication on the listed specialized topics.

Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to make students familiar with Polish specialized and scientific language the variations and forms of which students may encounter in the course of their studies and practice. For this reason, the subject will mainly deal with the analysis (reading comprehension and translation) of expert texts and enhancing specialized vocabulary related to various areas of human conduct and knowledge. Therefore, the emphasis will not be put on managing common communicative situations but on the ability to process an expert Polish text while using the instruments of its translation and analysis. The content of the subject mainly deals with particular aspects of Central European history and present with the emphasis put on the vocabulary that will enable students to approach and proces the texts related especially to their fields of study but also to the common core subjects. On the completion of the course, students will be able to read and comprehend a text in Polish with the help of accessible translation tools, both dictionaries and tools accessible on the internet. Students will be also able to use the above mentioned tools prudently in such a way that the text would prove useful for them both in practice and studies.

Credit requirements: active seminar participation with the minimum of 90% attendance, a presentation on a given topic, translation of an expert text of 1-2 standard pages completed gradually during the course, credit test (Pass Mark of 80%)
