- Course objectives
- Student has a basic interdisciplinary knowledge of the most important factors, facts, phenomena and processes in the area of regional development in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. They have knowledge of the geographical, economic and socio-cultural elements of structure of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and can assess their impact on contemporary economic and social development of these countries and their regions. Students have a theoretical and practical knowledge of the methods and tools used in regional analysis and strategic analysis, allowing them to describe the main issues of regional diversification and some recent regional questions. They understand the adjustment processes of the CEE Countries' regions to the EU regional policy and can present them in the processes of governance at local and regional level.

- 1. General information about regional structures in Central and Eastern Europe. Types and forms of regions. Central and Eastern European countries and their development problems.
2. Typical problems of regional development in CEE countries.
3. Regional disparities in CEE countries, comparison to EU level.
4. Basics of CEE countries regional policy. Why did those countries adopt EU regional policy.
5. Central and Eastern Europe: The Dynamics of Development and Policy Responses.
6. Some details of regional policy in Poland, Czech Republic and other CEE Countries. Metropolitan Functions of Warsaw, Prague, Budapest and Bratislava.
7. Comparison of regional development paths in chosen CEE Countries.
8. The State of CEE Cities and the Positions of New Member States in EU and global World.
9. Central and Eastern European Urban Regions and the Knowledge Economy.
10. Evolution of regional development during 2000-2006 and 2007-2013 periods in CEE countries.
11. Institutions and forms of regional cooperation in CEE countries.
12. Transborder co-operation genesis with special attention to Central and Eastern Europe. Concepts of Euro-regions, Euro-regions in Central and Eastern Europe.
