- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide the students with new phenomena and processes which bring dynamic development of human civilisation in last decades and enable them to orientate in political, social, economic and cultural tendencies of current globalising world. The way-out of the course is the definition of globalisation as currently ongoing phase of human society and their specific features including introduction of so far scientific and social reflexion of globalisation. In its next part, the attention will be paid to manifestation of globalisation in economy, its ecological impacts, global (globalised) culture as well as development and perspectives of national states in globalising state, including analysis of role of supranational, global organisations (WSO, UN). The final part of the course will deal with manifestations of globalisation in everyday life, perspectives of development of globalising trends and possible solutions of problems which occur. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: Students are able to define basic terms and issues associated with globalization. They are able to describe and define the essence of globalization, including its impact factors. They can also explain the influence of globalization on politics, economy, culture. Professional Skills: Students can explain globalization trends, find the information and resources relevant to each of the structures globalization influences and evaluate them. General Qualification: Students obtain a broad overview of world development, useful in the study of other subjects as well. They will be able to reflect on lessons learned in the areas of regional and local issues. Seminars Students elaborate selected topics in 10-15 minute presentation, followed by a discussion, which involves both teachers and students.

Seminars

- Term paper (in the form of professional interpretation or essays) concerning a selected manifestation of globalization in contemporary society (economic hegemony of multinational companies, environmental problems, the manifestations of acculturation, etc.).
The instructor will notify the students on the topics that have not been fully lectured for them to seek in the compulsory literature or at the e-learning site.
