Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce selected European labor markets, to bring different strategies applied in the fighting against unemployment. Students will extend the already realized course Labor Market and Employment Policy of Bachelor´s degree studies. Attention is focused on the analysis of social policy, but also on some selected labor markets.Students will assess the effectiveness of active labor policy. A considerable part of course consists of an analysis of the EU economical approach, which reflects mainly the growth or decline in employment.

  • 1st Introduction to the course: defining of object and course, obligatory literature and sources, basicn terms and contexts, extending of completed course of the Bachelor´s degree studies
    2nd Economic policy of EU
    3rd Social policy of EU, integration degrees, 4 degrees of freedom
    4th Legislative framework: Maastricht, Amsterdam Conference, Nice, Barcelona, Lisbon Strategy, The White Book
    5th Employment policy in the EU: examples of the Czech Republic, Poland, United Kingdom, Germany
    6th Examples of active employment policy in the EU countries
    7th Old and new EU countries and the labor market
    8th Demographic and population policy in EU countries
    9th Labour market and employment policy in the EU: Long-term unemployment at selected population groups
    10th Unemployment of women: problem of unemployment among middle-aged women, the regional unemployment rate of women
    11th The entry of new countries into the EU and the temporary period
    12th The importance of structural policies on the development of the European labor market
