- Course objectives
- The course constitutes part of the core subjects. It draws on knowledge in macroscopic and microscopic structure of the human body as presented in anatomy. The course explains the function of particular organs and organ systems. Knowledge of physiology is further supplemented by pathology and pathologic physiology courses.
- Syllabus
- 1. Human ontogenesis and its stages Functions of the cell. Humours - body fluids. Homeostasis.
2. Integrative function of the CNS, senses.
3. Movement and movement control.
4. Function of endocrine glands, basic effects of hormones.
5. Blood, lymph. Cardiovascular functions, blood capillaries, functions and control.
6. Ventilation and respiratory functions.
7. Function of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT).
8. Substance metabolism and energy metabolism. Balanced diet.
9. Excretory functions of the human body. Acid-base balance. Mechanisms of thermoregulation.
10. Reproductive function in humans.
11. The role of ventilation in acid-base balance, evaluation of respiratory functions (spirometry, FEV).
12. Biologically significant reflexes in the GIT (swallowing, defecation), gastric barrier.
13. Characteristics of physiological functions in children. Changes of physiological functions in adolescence.
14. Stressors, stages of stress, eustress, risks of stress. Subjective factors of discomfort (acute and chronic pain, itching, nausea etc.)
15. Specifics of physiological functions in adult males and females. Energetic balance in the organism - assessing food intake control. The role of the liver in metabolism.
16. Specific changes of physiological functions in ageing and old age.
17. External signs of cardiac activity, changes in blood pressure under physiologic conditions.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Přednáška 5 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- Contact hours are based on consultation of selected topics. Non-contact hours are realized via an e-learning environment available at http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. At the website, students can use learning materials with on-line assignments. Credits are granted upon successful completion based on a written or oral assessment where the student demonstrates knowledge of compulsory and recommended literature and discusses their on-line assignments. The student can consult the mentor concerning independently studied topics, be it in person, in group sessions or via e-mail.
Requirements for credit: 80 % active participation in practicals (students who could not meet attendance criteria due to serious obstacles will be given extra assignments by the tutor).
Requirements for examination: written test with a minimum of 80 % correct answers.
