- Course objectives
- The subject enables the student to learn basic Latin grammar and to acquire knowledge of necessary medical/nursing terminology so as to facilitate the study of other subjects.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to Latin, alphabet and phonetic properties, morphology, prepositions. Pronunciation, accent, quantity, reading Latin texts.
2. Nouns in 1st and 2nd declension.
3. Adjectives in 1st and 2nd declension.
4. Verbs in I - IV conjugation.
5. Nouns in 3rd declension - imparisyllabic. Nouns in 3rd declension - parisyllabic. Nouns in 3rd declension - additional notes - terminology in health care.
6. Revision of 3rd declension - exceptions.
7. Vocabulary, terminology.
8. Anatomy terminology and nomenclature.
9. Adjectives in 3rd declension -monotransitive (single-ending). Adjectives in 3rd declension - double transitive and triple transitive.
10. Greek nouns in 1st, 2nd and 3rd declension.
11. Comparison of adjectives - exceptions, irregular and incomplete comparison.
12. Adverbs.
13. Numerals and their use in Latin terminology.
14. Latin and Greek prefixes.
15. Latin and Greek suffixes.
16. Diagnosis, prescription and medication, abbreviations.
17. Revision.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Seminář 5 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- Contact hours are based on consultation of selected topics. Non-contact hours are realized via an e-learning environment available at http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. At the website, students can use learning materials with on-line assignments. Credits are granted upon successful completion based on a written or oral assessment where the student demonstrates knowledge of compulsory and recommended literature and discusses their on-line assignments. The student can consult the mentor concerning independently studied topics, be it in person, in group sessions or via e-mail. Written test with a minimum of 80 % correct answers.
