Course objectives
The course objective is to introduce gerontopsychiatry as an integral part of psychiatry, specializing in the senior population and gaining increasing importance due to the current demographic developments. Special attention will be paid to diseases carried on into the old age, diseases occurring in the old age or age-related diseases. The basis is formed by the big four: dementia, depression, delirium and drug addiction (alcohol, drugs ...). Polypharmacy and somatic diseases often have a direct connection to the occurrence of symptoms that can be mistaken for primary psychological problems. Students will become familiar with investigative procedures for assessing the severity of the symptoms, the need to distinguish between critical points in the care of these patients (clients) and orientation in the industry The course lecturer works at the CTCenter MaVe s.r.o. - a psychiatric clinic with extended care (+ gerontopsychiatry + geriatric psychiatric ward with psychotherapeutic programme + geriatrics), all of which are open to filed trips for students.
