Course objectives
Students consolidate general pedagogical, special pedagogical and psychological knowledge by observation and registration of the special education process and phenomena. They compare the observed phenomena and processes with educational constructs within the context of the variables that influence socialization with a disabled people. Understand the biological basis of mutual relations and of social determination on the formation of human personality. The focus and assignments of the observation special education work experience is based on the content of the course Special education and is seen as an important part of shaping the graduate’s profile. Facilities for observation work experience are chosen in line with this objective, across relevant departments which deal with the issues of disabled people. Detailed information about cooperation with the practising institutions relating to the study programme, including the list of facilities with which the Silesian University in Opava signed Framework Cooperation Agreements are given in the C_II form of the accreditation file.
Learning outcomes
General knowledge and skills:
- Students have knowledge of the biological basis of social determination in the broader context of the development and formation of human personality.

Professional knowledge and skills:
- Students are well versed in policy documents and legislative framework of the social integration of people with impairments in physical, psychological or social.
- Students can characterize the variables affecting the socialization of disabled people.
- Students can describe special educational phenomena and processes.

Specialized knowledge and skills:
- students can record the conditions of educational reality in the selected facility.
- students can analyze data and compares them with the theoretical knowledge.

Teaching methods
Online: lectures, discussions, interviews, brainstorming, self-study, individual student preparation. The course can be realized in this summer semester 2020/2021 only by indirect students´ participation in practicing. Specifically, it was based on the method of online interviews with the managers and directors of schools and social facilities and the self - studying of related legislative and conceptual documents.
Assessment methods
To obtain the credits, the students have the participate in the introductory and selected ongoing online seminars. Furthermore, students conduct an interview with the heads of facilities and schools(online) and keep the required records, which then submit in the form of a portfolio. Submission of the portfolio according to the set structure is a condition for gaining the credits. Content structure of the portfolio:
- name of the facility, its function,
- target user audience of the facility
- conditions of the support of comprehensive development of the facility users
- description of selected phenomena and processes of special pedagogy
- analysis of the collected data and comparison with theoretical bases.
