- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Professional Practice II is to gain practical experience in everyday work with the client. This is an internship focused directly on social work, i.e. the mentor must be a social worker in the facility. Professional practice will allow the student to gain experience with the client in the field, to get acquainted with his living conditions, needs, verify theoretical background and acquire basic professional skills. The student will be in the selected facility orient in its mission, composition of the group of clients, organizational structure, staffing, links to other facilities and local community, relevant legislation. During the internship, attention will also be paid to teamwork, including cooperation with other organizations and institutions, client families, doctors, psychologists. Professional practice II will be realized in the form of individual, continuous internship (104 hours) in a selected facility of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Justice. It will be implemented in the departments of care for the elderly and citizens in health care disadvantaged, trade unions and departments of social and legal protection of children, social services facilities with a focus on the family and children, in facilities for people with disabilities and other facilities (medical, school, social care, etc.). The student completes, for example, a summer camp lasting 10 days and / or a school in nature - 10 days (you can also combine)
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to: - characterize their chosen practice facility - list the main legislative documents governing the establishment - characterise the environment and its importance in working with the target group in the facility - make preparations for activities with a client of the facility - carry out direct activities with a client under mentoring - implement and analyse the monitoring of the social worker's activities in the facility - self-evaluation of their activities within the practice Come in: - is able to apply knowledge of pedagogy in practice, uses pedagogical methods at work - knowledge of basic methods, forms and techniques (of education and training) - is able to think about current problems, analyse the ongoing process of working with a client, monitor the development of his/her problem or difficulty, think about the possibilities of improving the situation with regard to the quality of life of this individual - can apply knowledge not only from pedagogical disciplines, but also from psychology, social pathology and special pedagogy - respects the age, physical condition and disposition of individuals, including the specifics of communication, when working with clients - is able to recognise problem situations not only in the work of the supervisor but also in his/her own supervised input, - can process the activity and prepare for the day, - is responsible in his/her approach to the client, reliable in attendance and completion of assigned tasks, cooperative with facility staff, - has knowledge of self-knowledge and self-awareness, is aware of his/her strengths and weaknesses and can reflect on them, recognises his/her strengths and weaknesses in his/her teaching practice - has the ability to give and receive feedback within the team.
- Syllabus
- The practice is divided into two parts (part A, part B). Part A 104 hours/semester, i.e. 8 hours/week. Part B 80h (10days) summer camp and/or outdoor school (can be combined) Part A: Clarification of the student's position during the internship. Definition of the mission and goals of the workplace, target group of clients. Identification of the founder of the facility. Inclusion in the network of social services, education, etc., typology of services provided according to the law. Familiarisation with the organisational and personnel structure of the facility. Job descriptions of individual workers, identification of the possibility of working in a team, possibilities of supervision (internal, external). Familiarisation with the legislation and working regulations governing the workers in the organisation. Familiarisation with the specifics of the target group and definition of the typology of problems of the clients of the facility. Part B: In this part, the student observes, among other things, the organizational complexity of the event, which is also described in this part of the practice diary. Thus, the student should deepen his/her skills not only to implement partial educational or leisure activities with children, but also the ability to plan events for children. He/she observes how to prepare, plan and organise an event. Based on theoretical knowledge, attempts to assess the programme of the event in relation to the target group. Can suggest adjustments where necessary. Method of keeping data on clients, protection of the client's personality against possible misuse of personal information. Methods and approaches used with clients in the workplace. Students observe client work in the workplace. Independent work with a client under the supervision of a trainer. Overall assessment of practice in terms of the use of theoretical knowledge and its applicability in practice.
