- Course objectives
- The objective of the Developmental psychology course is to understand the basic definition, subject and objectives of the basic psychological discipline and the application of its findings. Students are familiarized with basic knowledge about the physical and psychological human development in all its developmental stages - during the prenatal, neonatal, infant, toddler, preschool, primary school periods, pubescence, adolescence, young, middle and late adulthood and old age, including the specifics of their possible behaviours provoking conflict situations in the negotiations.

- Professional knowledge:
- students acquire and demonstrate knowledge of basic terminology related to the subject of developmental psychology
- students can describe the key human developmental stages according to different classifications
- students can characterize the mental development of individuals in different age periods with their characteristic milestones
- students are well versed in the specific conflict and risk situations that are predicted in individual periods
Professional skills:
- students can assess the degree of human development and a specific periods
- students can apply knowledge of specific ontogenetic periods in a practical situation
- students manage to combine theoretical knowledge of the characteristics of individual human developmental stages with crisis moments of life and conflict prevention
- students can create a case study of a person
General qualification:
- students can use and apply predictive knowledge about human developmental periods in specific situations and education - Syllabus
- 1. Definition of discipline, object and objectives of developmental psychology, application possibilities, position in the system of sciences and relation to other scientific disciplines. The concept of intellectual development, basic forms, factors and mechanisms of development. Methods of developmental psychological examination, longitudinal, semi-longitudinal and transverse research approach.
- 2. Theory of determination and periodization of development. Prenatal period and its importance for further development. Neonatal period.
- 3. Infant and toddler age - development of gross and fine motor skills, perception and development of pre-speech expressions; cognitive development; socialization.
- 4. Preschool age - development of basic abilities and skills, cognitive development, development of children's identity, emotional development and socialization.
- 5. School maturity. School readiness. Issues related to premature schooling.
- 6. Younger and middle school age - development of basic abilities and skills, cognitive development, emotional development and socialization.
- 7. Adolescence - physical transformation, main psychological characteristics of adolescence, the development of basic skills, abilities and interests, cognitive development, identity development, emotional development and socialization.
- 8. Adolescence - the development of an adolescent identity, socialization - relationships with adults, peers, going to work.
- 9. Periods of young adulthood - cognitive development, socialization, identity of young adulthood; professional roles, partnerships, marriage, parenting, period of 1st retrospection.
- 10. Period of middle adulthood - physical changes, the transformation of professional roles, change of partner relationship, transformation of parental roles, change of relationship to one’s own parents, middle-aged person’s identity.
- 11. Periods of older adulthood - physical changes associated with the onset of ageing, cognitive processes, personality development and role changes, professional roles, marriage of ageing people, the role of grandparents.

- Personal contact in teaching, consulting hours. During continuous study, the student uses the study support and processes selected correspondence tasks. Here he will also demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and contact teaching lectures. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied topics of the subject through e-mail, individual or group consultations.
