Course objectives
This course is designed to introduce students to counseling as a profession, a science, and a theory. Another goal is to provide students with an overview of the institutionalization and specifics of counseling in selected sectors - education and social welfare. The course will provide an overview of basic counseling theories and approaches and introduce motivational interviewing and its use in counseling practice.
Learning outcomes
The learner will be able to: Define counselling as a profession, science and theory. Explain the institutionalization of counseling in the ministries of education and social affairs, Name and critically reflect on the specificities of counselling in the education and social affairs and labor, The learner will understand the differences in the basic theories and approaches applied in counselling. The learner will be able to apply the principles and selected techniques of motivational interviewing in counseling practice.

Teaching methods
Explanation, discussion, presentation, demonstration of processes.
Activating methods - brainstorming, observation, interpretation of processes, situational methods, critical thinking.
Assessment methods
Conditions for Exam Registration: Seminar: Attendance - Mandatory participation. A maximum of 2 absences is allowed, which must be justified. The reason for the absence must be sent to the seminar instructor via email in advance or, at the latest, within 5 days after the seminar date. Completion of assigned tasks during the seminar. Active participation in seminar activities as per the instructions. Students are required to actively engage in discussed topics and activities. Passivity during seminars may result in failure to complete the seminar requirements. Exam: Written test based on the designated required literature and lectures. A seminar paper approved by the instructor is a prerequisite for exam registration. Deadline (applies to all): March 14, 2025 Exam - Written test.
