- Course objectives
- The course introduces students to the importance of social responsibility in the private and public sectors, as well as within society as a whole. Throughout the semester, students will explore the current concept of social responsibility across various spheres and areas of activity in the Czech Republic. They will become familiar with tools and methods for measuring social responsibility in companies and organizations. The course will also provide insights into this topic from the perspective of global organizations such as the OECD, EU, and BLF. Students will gain an understanding of the key areas of social responsibility, enabling them to compare different approaches to the concept from a societal perspective. They will also learn to apply their knowledge to the principles of social responsibility from the perspectives of organizations, employees, and citizens.
- Learning outcomes
- - Knowledge of the concept of social responsibility – The student will understand the basic principles of social responsibility, its key areas (economic, social, environmental), and approaches in both the Czech Republic and worldwide.
- Practical application – The student will be able to use acquired knowledge to analyze and design measures to promote social responsibility in organizations and society.
- Critical evaluation – The student will be capable of assessing the benefits and limitations of social responsibility and proposing ways to improve its implementation in practice. - Syllabus
- 1. The Concept of Social Responsibility (global development, approaches, history, key figures).
- 2. The Concept of Social Responsibility (development in the Czech Republic, approaches, key figures).
- 3. Areas of Social Responsibility (economic, environmental, social).
- 4. Implementing the Responsibility Concept in Organizations (approaches, motivation, and concept creation).
- 5. Evaluation and Reporting of Social Responsibility.
- 6. Criticism of the Social Responsibility Concept.
- 7. Perspectives on Social Responsibility from Key Global Organizations (OECD, EU).
- 8. Related Concepts and Business Ethics (corporate citizenship, work-life balance, philanthropy, sustainable development, etc.).
- 9. Social Responsibility of Higher Education Institutions (examples of best practices).
- 10. Expressions of Social Responsibility (initiatives, projects, and activities in the Czech Republic).
- 11. Examples of Best Practices in the Czech Republic and Abroad.

- The course will be completed with a credit. The condition for obtaining the credit is the successful completion of correspondence assignments as specified and successfully passing a written test with a score of at least 60%.
