Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present the historical connections and other political, economic and cultural factors which have lead to forming of globally influential and mutually interlinked economic relations and networks especially in the course of the 19th and the 20th century. The focus is put on trends and transformations of economic division of the world and on political and other connections of these processes. The students will be introduced the process of economic integration on regional as well as global level and the influence of international economic organizations. The graduates should be able to take into consideration the macro-regional disproportions in economic sphere and compare the level of economic integration processes on individual continents with level of European integration.
Syllabus
  • 1. - 2. Economic differentiation of the world according to economic systems, absolute and relative indicators of GNP. Re-counted data according to parity of purchasing force
    3. - 4. World economic centres and their main interest spheres. Historical, political and cultural causes of different level. Development trends of economic development.
    5. - 6. Consequences of economic and political isolation for states. Differences between the most developed states united in OECD and the least developed states registered by UN
    7. - 8. Integration processes in the world, their classification and reflexion in macro.-regional differentiation of the world. An outline of the most important integration coalitions on individual continents
    9. - 10. Dominant economic powers and their political influence. New forms of transcontinental integration and trans-border integration systems
    11. - 12. Mutual links and relations between integrated systems. Position of the Czech republic in world economy.
