Course objectives
The course aims to acquaint students with the position of this discipline among other disciplines in medical care. It focuses not only on clinical biochemical analysis of particular organs but chapters concerning analysis of plasmatic proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and following metabolic disorders are also included. The beginning of the laboratory process, that is taking of biological material and pre-analytic influence on the results of laboratory analysis are discussed separately. The course describes shortly basic parameters of laboratory assessment as well as basics of clinical practice with the aim of correct understanding of basic metabolic connection between these two disciplines and of correct interpretation of laboratory results. After finishing the course, the student will be well informed in the facilities of laboratory analysis of particular compartments of human organism, however, these do not comprise all content of clinical biochemistry, they are merely selected chapters dealing with most important and most common analyses of clinical laboratory practice.
