Prerequisites
Special knowledge:
Students demonstrate basic grammatical skills and basic orientation in less demanding Hungarian texts and in the course of working with the texts theyr are able to continue to build their vocabulary with the help of dictionaries.
Special skills:
Students can use basic Hungarian vocabulary for reading simple texts and are able to have general conversation in Hungarian. They are able to work with easier texts and with the help of dictionaries to orient themselves in easier specialised texts.
General abilities (skills):
Students can read an easier Hungarian text and work with it. They are able to develop further vocabulary based on the work with texts, which will be the basis for developing communication skills in the language.

Course objectives
The objective of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of the Hungarian language. After completing the course, students should have basic communication skills and be able to orient themselves in an easier Hungarian text. The subject matter will combine teaching grammar and practical language exercises, during which students will consolidate the learned theoretical language skills and vocabulary. The course does not require any previous knowledge of the language.
Syllabus
  • Overview of the subject matter (ZS):
    1. Phonetic structure of the Hungarian language; sounds in Hungarian.
    2. Pronunciation. Vocal harmony. Accent.
    3. Spelling and punctuation. Definite article. Use of the definite article. Pronunciation exercises.
    4. Indicative pronouns ez, az. The word "je" (copula). Interrogative pronoun milyen? Adjective kis, kicsi.
    5. Indefinite article egy. Interrogative pronoun hol? Indefinite article egy. Suffixes. Negatives nem and nincs / sem and sincs.
    6. Word order in the sentence. Numerals. Other interrogative pronouns (hány? mennyi?).
    7. Comparison of adjectives. Relative pronouns aki, ami. Interrogative pronoun melyik? Comparison.
    8. Plural. Adjective as an attribute and predicate. Interrogative pronoun hányadik.
    9. Present tense. Infinitive.
    10. General subject. Conjugation of the auxiliary verb vagyok. Suffix -ul, -ül.
    11. Conjugation of irregular verbs menni, jönni. Personal pronouns ön, önök, maga, maguk. Future tense.
    12. Summary repetition of the subject matter.

    1. Suffixes -ba, -be; -ban, -ben; -ból, -ből; -ra, -re; -n, -on, -en, -ön; -ról, -ről.
    2. Suffixes to the question hova? hol? honnan? Suffix exercises.
    3. Declension of demonstrative pronouns. The ik verbs.
    4. Verb prefixes, coverbs. Grammar exercises.
    5. Possessive suffixes. Possessive construction. Coverbs with possessive constructions.
    6. Possessive suffixes in plural. Declension of personal pronouns.
    7. Possessive constructions. Possessive character-é. Possessive pronouns.
    8. Grammar exercises.
    9. Objective conjugation. Definite and indefinite object.
    10. Suffix -val, -vel. Suffix exercises.
    11. Irregular verbs enni, inni, tenni, venni, vinni, hinni.
    12. Summary repetition of the subject matter.
