Course objectives
The aim of the course is that the students master the German language in the field of public administration and regional policy and deepen their language competence during their studies. The course is focused on the parallel acquisition of general and professional language with an emphasis on current social and political events in the Czech Republic, the European Union and in the German-speaking countries. The focus of work is in conversation, understanding foreign texts and their analysis; attention is also paid to reading, working with text and immediate reaction to it in expression of one's personal opinion on the subject in German. Periodicals, publications and Internet articles will be used in particular to strengthen the professional vocabulary. Study Outcomes: Professional Knowledge: At the end of their fourth semester, the students should reach the language level B1 to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. Level B1 students can understand speech relating to current affairs. They understand texts relating feelings and events using basic communicational vocabulary. They can communicate in normal life situations and may discuss topics that are known to them with a level of certainty. They can relate and describe their needs, write texts concerning their field of study or letters using conditionals. Achieving B2 level is conditioned by understanding spoken word covering common problems (TV, films). Similar criteria apply to reading texts. They can also read fiction written in the current language. Professional Skills: Students are able to converse fluently with native speakers on familiar topics and they can express their view and the advantages or disadvantages of an issue. They can write a minor text from on their field of study and capture its meaning clearly, using vocabulary specific for the area of public administration. General Qualification: The student acquires partial knowledge in the field of public administration and regional policy in German, and the ability to translate and converse.

The scope and content focus of individual student work is similar to the full-time study requirements, given that this work will be corrected electronically in communication between the teacher and the students.
