Course objectives
The objective of the course is to familiarize the student with basic principles of psychotherapy. The course describes the scope of psychotherapy, types of psychotherapy, classification of the field, its methods, approaches and applications. On completion of the course the student is able to orientate themselves in the discipline of psychotherapy. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student develops and demonstrates knowledge of the discipline of psychotherapy and of its applications in clinical practice. Professional skills: The student is able to implement selected psychotherapeutic techniques in clinical practice. General ability: The student is able to assess current patient status in terms of mental health and to choose appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques for the management of mental conditions. Competence: The student is able to mediate to individuals, relatives, families and groups supportive psychotherapeutic assistance in an adequate manner within the scope of nursing competence.

  • 1. Psychotherapy as a discipline - its objectives, classification and methods.
    2. Current trends in psychotherapy.
    3. Therapist´s personality, psychotherapeutic interview.
    4. Psychotherapeutic relationship, psychotherapeutic process.
    5. Scope of applications in psychotherapy - emergency psychological care, dealing with an aggressive patient, patients with intractable diseases. Victims of violence.
    6. Transactional analysis.

Credit requirements: 80 % active participation. Students who could not attend a number of lessons for serious reasons will be assigned extra tasks.
Analysis and defense of a seminar paper. Credit test.
