Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with findings and skills in the field of nursing care of patients in a dialysis programme. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The students are able to characterize symptoms and treatment of patients suffering from chronic diseases of kidneys, which are related to nursing care issues. The students can orientate themselves in treatment methods in the dialysis programme, its variations and procedures. Professional skills: The students are able to plan and provide care by means of the method of nursing process to patients suffering from either acute or chronic kidney failure. General ability: The students are able to establish nursing anamnesis for patients suffering from either acute or chronic kidney failure independently and to diagnose nursing problems, to plan care and to assess expected results in the change of patient's medical condition. Competence: The students shall verify, enhance and deepen the gained ability of working by the method of nursing process for patients in the dialysis programme in subsequent studies and clinical practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. An overview of blood purifying methods. Nursing care of patients with continual dialysis. Keeping of records.
    2. Technical prerequisites of haemodialysis.
    3. Securing of venous accesses and nursing care.
    4. Nutrition of patients in the haemodialysis programme. Patients'/clients' biopsychosocial problems.
    5. Hygienic and epidemiologic mode of nephrological wards/departments.
    6. Nursing care of a patient/client suffering from diabetes mellitus at haemodialysis. Nursing care of a patient with peritoneal dialysis.
    7. Education of patients/clients and relatives.
