- Course objectives
- The course combines theoretical and practical lessons. It provides an overview of health insurance systems, lists of health care interventions and current legislative acts on health care reimbursement. Basic information on enterprising and its economic aspects in health care is provided. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student demonstrates knowledge of key economic terms, principles of economics in health care, intervention coding, and insurance systems. Demonstrates knowledge of health care registers. Professional skills: The student is able to orientate themselves in the economic aspects of the functioning of health care and social care facilities. The student is able to handle appropriate forms and reports. General ability: The student is able to act in the economic area of health and social care. They know the value of health and contribute to best practices in health care provision. Competence: The student understands coding, accounting and reporting in health care and is able to develop their knowledge and skills and to actively search for state-of-the-art information in the economic and legal area.
- Syllabus
- 1. Health and social services in market economy, market principles and regulation, social solidarity and equivalence principle. The value of health in modern society.
2. Health care system indicators - accessibility, quality, expensiveness, efficiency, equity, acceptability. Characteristics of care providers, payers and care. National health insurance. Supply and demand regulation.
3. Economic issues in current health care. Hospital and ambulatory care funding.
4. The value of health in modern society.
5. Ownership and capital structure of health care facilities. Accounting and reporting for health insurance companies. Reporting for ÚZIS and the health registers.
6. Basic economic terms (assets, liabilities, revenues, costs, economic result).
7. Basic terms of financial accounting (balance sheet, profit and loss statement). Health care facility budget, social care facility budget.
8. Introduction to managerial accounting and controlling.

- Attendance in a minimum of 80 per cent of seminars is required for completion. Students who could not attend a number of lessons for serious reasons will be assigned extra tasks.
Credit test, a minimum of 80 per cent of correct answers are required.
