Course objectives
The course familiarizes the student with basic principles of pediatric care and relevant diagnostic and nursing procedures. It places emphasis on specific features of child care compared to other types of nursing activity. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to describe principles and procedures of pediatric care in children with various types of disease and injury. The student is able to characterize ontogenetic features of childhood. Professional skills: The student is able to provide adequate care to children with various types of disease and injury, as well as to healthy children. They are able to effectively intervene in acute and chronic conditions within the scope of their professional competence. General ability: The student is ready to provide nursing care to children with various biopsychosocial characteristics and needs. Competence: On completion of the course the student is able to actively take care of children using the nursing process methodology within the scope of their competence as stipulated in current legal provisions.

  • 1. Stages of childhood - characteristic features.
    2. Nutrition and fluid and electrolyte balance, disturbances of inner environment.
    3. Burns, injuries resulting from heat and cold.
    4. Poisoning in children, trauma.
    5. NP (nursing process) in children with respiratory diseases. Mental disorders in childhood and adolescence.
    6. NP in children with cardiovascular diseases.
    7. NP in children with gastrointestinal diseases and oral cavity diseases.
    8. NP in children with urogenital diseases.
    9. NP in children with endocrine and metabolic disorders.
    10. NP in children with immune disorders and allergies.
    11. NP in children with nervous system disorders.
    12. NP in children with infectious diseases.
    13. NP in children with blood disorders and hematopoiesis disorders.
    14. NP in children with dermatovenerologic diseases.
    15. NP in children with musculoskeletal disorders.
    16. NP in terminally ill children. Care of the deceased body.
    17. Child abuse and neglect.
    18. NP in children with emergencies and life-threatening conditions. Surgical issues.
    19. NP in children with ear, nose and throat diseases. Eye diseases.
