Course objectives
In the introduction to the course, nursing is specified as a field of science with its own subject of research, theoretical models, standard terminology, classification systems and methodology. It is followed by a chapter showing how to formulate a research problem, a research question and research goals. The chapter Quantitative Research is focused mainly on mastering of basic research techniques (standardized tests and scales, principles of making original questionnaires and their first and second assessment stages). The chapter Qualitative Research provides understanding of basic philosophy of qualitative research, showing basic techniques of quantitative data collection - interview, monitoring, document analysis, case report sets. It instructs the students how to assess quantitative data by means of qualitative analysis, cluster formation method, grounded theory, matrix formation, etc. The course is aimed at acquainting the students of General Nurse discipline with the fundamentals of scientific methodology of the discipline and at teaching them to conceive and to implement and evaluate simple empiric research in clinical nursing.
